FAQ: Boss Pedals

Q: Sometimes when I push the pedal, two or more pages turn at one time. How do I make sure that only one page turn occurs with each pedal stroke?

Sometimes pedals will physically "de-bounce" when pressed too hard or fast, causing rapid multiple signal triggers resulting in multiple page turns through the AirTurn. In both Mac and Windows operating systems, you can activate a feature called "Filter Keys", which lets you control or eliminate repeated keystrokes.

In Windows, press the "Shift" key and hold for 8 seconds to activate the "Filter Keys" menu. Follow the prompts to set Filter Keys to ignore repeated keystrokes - you can set the delay from 0.5 to 2 seconds before keystrokes can be re-triggered. You can also adjust these settings by going to the Control Panel, then selecting the "Accessibility" option, then selecting "Filter Keys".

In Windows Vista, go to the Control Panel and select the "Ease of Accessibility" menu option, then click on the "Make the keyboard easier to use" link option.

The MusicReader program has a feature that allows you to set a pageturn delay to mitigate any rapid multiple keystrokes or pedal de-bounce effects. You can view a video demonstrating this feature on the MusicReader product information page.

Q: The FS-6 Dual pedal doesn't work when i try to turn pages with my AirTurn.

1. Make sure that the AA batteries are inserted correctly in AT-104
2. Make sure the 9v battery is inserted correctly in FS-6. A red light comes on when cable is plugged into the center jack.
3. Make sure the switches on the back are set to momentary (FS-5U) and both polarity switches are set to the right when looking at the back - see the picture below and note the direction the switches should be set following the arrows (click on the picture for a larger view):

4. Make sure that the AirTurn Receiver is placed in the USB port and checked for blinking light upon insertion. If there is no light when the Receiver is first inserted, reboot your computer and check again.
5. With the pedal connected, check to see light on receiver blinks when pedal is depressed.
6. Test the PageUp and PageDown function on the keyboard to insure they properly turn the pages.

Q: My FS-5U single pedal doesn't work, or it doesn't stop advancing/reversing pages when connected to my AirTurn.

A: See the picture below to make sure you have the momentary switch in the correct position, as per the red arrow (click on the picture for a larger view):
